Explanation for this crests

With the name "Roffmann" we have a combined name. Its a combination of " roff" and "mann". It could be, that "roff" was traced back to the lower-noth-german "röveke". "ke" stands for the a smaller form of the origin "röve". And "röve" could be a changed form of "röfke", which means in lower-north-german a small turnip.

"Rov/roof" in lower german and in english means quilt or horse blankett or thatched roof. The name "Roffmann" could also be built by profession.

In the region of Hannover, the names "Rof(f)ka(h)r" and "Ro(h)ka(h)r" are also present. The "rover " was the robber. The "kar " stands for a container. "Roffmann" also could have been traced back to the robber-man.

The special tinctures red, black and gold and the wings are assigned to the home of the family - the region around Hildesheim, today the Landkreis Hildesheim in Niedersachsen. The tinctures are taken from the official crests of the Landkreis Hildesheim. Kemme belongs to the landkreis Hildesheim and is one of the earliest mentioned settlements in Niedersachsen. This is the origin of the family. The crest of the village Kemme shows a comb, designed to the signet of "Bernward von Kemme" anno 1265. These signs are the symbol for the family members descended from the first Kemmer Roffmann named Toni.
